Been Born in San Josè, Costa Rica, Roberto Duran (aka Kooks) discovered his passion for house music by late 90’s. By that time, Kooks started hanging out at the local clubs, bars and parties as any other clubber, a few time later, he met the owner of the legendary “Regina 51” started helping him out at his club.
Around 1999, Kooks started his own web portal (clubbingculture.com) to promote Costa Rican electronic parties and bars, the project was a total success and had the support of the most important clubs and promoters in the country, since then, Clubbing Culture became the most important website for electronic music in Costa Rica.
By 2004 he joined the staff of the biggest club in San Jose, Vertigo, where he started taking care of marketing and promotion; working there he had the chance to watch closer dj’s and producers such as Dubfire, Sander Kleinenberg, Lee Burridge, Danny Howells, Junkie XL, and many other people that influenced his taste for house music.
2006 was the year that saw Kooks start spinning, the fact of been deep into the local scene and his passion for house music made him get interested in spinning music as most of his friends. His influences goes from chill out, jazz, disco and even rock and punk, also producers such as Sultan, Beckers, D’Nox, Sander Kleinenberg, Deadmau5 and may more; all mixed together in sets that make people enjoy music it-self without an specific genre.
Because of the success as a dj and his special taste for music, Kooks have been spinning around at the most important clubs and bars in Costa Rica such as Club Vertigo, The Den, Retrovisor, JAM, Aqua, Latino Rock Café, XPi Lounge, Kashmir and several other places in San Jose downtown.
